How to use: Click an organism to add it to your chain.
You have to start with a producer (grass or tree), and each
organism eats only the one before it — so chain levels must go up by one each
time. The energy pyramid on the right shows how much energy is left at each
level: about 90% is lost between links.
Notice: energy flows one way through a food chain, and most of it is
lost at each step — as heat, movement and waste. That's why food chains rarely
have more than four or five links, and why top predators need a huge area to
find enough energy.
